Breaking: Leeds United officially signed the 18-year-old superstar…

Leeds United announce Darryl Ombang deal at Elland Road as new terms agreed

Leeds United have strengthened their youth talent as goalkeeper Darryl Ombang has signed a new contract.

According to Leeds’ official website [8 May], Ombang has signed a deal until the summer of 2026, which would extend the length of his stay at the club to five years since arriving in 2021.

The 18-year-old has played between the sticks for both the Whites’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides, as well as representing England on several occasions at Under-17 level, and has been tipped for a massive future.

Ombang will eventually look to push towards the senior Leeds squad, with the club’s goalkeeping situation potentially in transition as they look to sign Viktor Johansson from relegated Rotherham United.

Young stars at Leeds United

The production line at Thorp Arch in recent years has been superb, with a host of Leeds players breaking into the first team and making a stern impact – Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray previously regulars in the club’s Under-21s.

Whilst Leeds’ U21 side have endured a difficult season this term, many of its prospects have been involved with Daniel Farke’s first team squad in recent times – and highly rated Ombang may be next off the conveyor belt.

The Whites’ Under-18s, which Ombang was a regular for in 2022-23, sit fifth in the U18 Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds will keep star-of-the-future Ombang developing internally with the U21 team or if he’ll gain further experience out on loan in men’s football, with incomings expected in bulk at Elland Road regardless of the club’s division next season.

Leeds could be offered considerable amounts for their talent, and may reinvest any high transfer fees into other areas of the squad.

In other Leeds news, another young star at Thorp Arch is set to be loaned out.
