Current Braves minor leaguer accused of placing bets with illegal bookie, ESPN says
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Braves minor leaguer David Fletcher has been accused of placing bets with the same bookie used by Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter, according to ESPN.
Fletcher was Ohtani’s teammate on the Los Angeles Angels from 2018 to 2023. He is currently with the Gwinnett Stripers, the Braves’ AAA affiliate.
According to ESPN, Fletcher and a friend placed bets with Mathew Bowyer, the same bookie used by Ippei Mizuhara, Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter who is accused of stealing nearly $16 million from the baseball star.
ESPN’s report says Fletcher placed bets on several sports, but not baseball. MLB players are allowed to place bet on sports other than baseball, but not with an illegal bookie.
Fletcher has been described as one of Ohtani’s closest friends in baseball.
