Brian Windhorst Questions Cavs GM’s Statement About Offseason Changes

The Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways with coach J.B. Bickerstaff.

And while that wasn’t particularly surprising, he did what he could with the hand he was given.

The Cavs have some talent, but the fit is questionable, particularly when it comes to the big men.

That’s why, as much as GM Koby Altman claimed that he didn’t feel there was a major need for a roster overhaul, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst isn’t so sure.

Talking on ESPN Cleveland, Windhorst claimed that having Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen playing the same way they played and keeping them together just isn’t feasible.

He believes that the only way this works is if Mobley all of a sudden turned into a 40% three-point shooter or developed a bunch of moves in the high post and the Cavs ran an offense capable of actually getting him the basketball there.

Otherwise, that just wouldn’t work out.

Allen is one of the best rebounders in the game, and his rim protection has come in handy for this team.

But Mobley just hasn’t taken a step forward as a scorer, and it just doesn’t seem like he has that scoring touch.

He’s also a high-level defender and excelled at the five when Allen was out, so it would make more sense for the Cavs to double down on him, especially with his contract extension looming large.

Also, with the reports about the players not being pleased with Allen’s decision not to play with a rib injury, perhaps he’s already overstayed his welcome in The Land.
