Green Bay Packers And Philadelphia Eagles Projected To Pull Off Trade Prior To Week 1

The Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles are set to square off in Brazil during week one of the 2024 NFL season.  The matchup will mark a huge moment for the NFL and football around the world.

The Eagles and Packers are both looking to build on a 2023 season that saw them make the playoffs, but fall short of the Super Bowl.  Could the two teams be in business before the season even starts?

The Green Bay Packers And Philadelphia Eagles Could Make Major Move

Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report highlighted what a trade for James Bradberry would do for the Packers’ defense:

One area of concern for the Packers moving into this season is depth at cornerback. They traded away Rasul Douglas in the middle of last season, Eric Stokes and Jaire Alexander have both struggled with injuries and Carrington Valentine might be the only young corner who has proven he can do the job.

Adding another veteran to the mix wouldn’t be the worst idea.

One low-risk move would be to call up the Philadelphia Eagles and work out a deal to get James Bradberry. There’s no sugarcoating it, he was bad last season. He gave up 11 touchdowns and a passer rating of 114.3.

However, he’s still one season removed from giving up just two scores and a passer rating of 51.6. He put together a career year in his first season with the Eagles.

The Eagles have essentially moved on from him already this offseason. They drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, giving them two young cornerback prospects who could bump Bradberry down the depth chart.

At this point, the Eagles should be glad to just get Bradberry off the roster and avoid paying his $1.2 million salary. Meanwhile, the Packers would be paying a low cost to get a player who might still have a good season or two in the tank.

Will The Packers Address The Cornerback Position?

Ballentine makes a good point about the cornerback depth on the Packers’ roster right now.  Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes are likely to start on the perimeter while Carrington Valentine will rotate in.  Keisean Nixon is likely to play in the slot.

If there is an injury, or one is underperforming, having a veteran like Bradberry could prove beneficial.  Additionally, the Packers could likely get him for a day three pick.

New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is going to ask a lot out of his secondary.  Xavier McKinney and the three safeties the Packers decided to draft completely revamped that position.
