DODGERS ACQUIRE VETERAN UTILITY PLAYER CAVAN BIGGIO IN A TRADE WITH BLUE JAYS

Blue Jays second baseman Cavan Biggio has surpassed expectations but is ...

The Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their depth this week by adding veteran utility player Cavan Biggio in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays.

In order to land Biggio, the Dodgers sent minor-league reliever Braydon Fisher to Toronto. The LA team also received cash consideration as part of the deal.

Biggio struggled so far in 2024, batting a career-worst .200 with two homers, nine RBIs, and two stolen bases in 44 games. These poor performances caused the Blue Jays to designate Biggio for assignment last week.

However, it appears that the Dodgers believe Biggio can serve as a complementary piece to their star-studded roster and that they can use him in a better way than the Blue Jays did.

“A lot of emotions that I sat and went through and processed,” Biggio told reporters after landing with the Dodgers. “I put myself in a good position to make my next step forward being here, so I’m excited about it.”

Cavan Biggio, the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Blue Jays. Biggio made his MLB debut in 2019 and has since played 490 games with Toronto, batting .227 with 48 home runs, 176 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases.
