Liverpool are closing on a deal for 16-year-old Wolves wonderkid Alvin Ayman as they look to further bolster their Academy resources.

Ayman, who plays predominantly as a defender, has already featured twice for the Midlands club at under-21 level in Premier League 2 having initially made his breakthrough with the U18s earlier last season.

He featured seven times in the U18 Premier League North and was in the Wolves side that beat Liverpool 4-2 in the competition in April.

The teenager was only signed by the Molineux outfit from Bradford City last summer having been at the Academy with the Yorkshire club since U9 level. During his time at Bradford, Ayman played on the left of the central defence and also appeared in midfield.

The move continues Liverpool’s trend of spending money to bring a number of highly-rated youngsters into the Academy set-up.

Trey Nyoni, the 16-year-old who made his senior debut for the Reds last season, was signed from Leicester City last August with centre-back Amara Nallo brought from West Ham United.

Bobby Clark and Ben Doak were bought from Newcastle United and Celtic for £1.5million and £600,000 respectively, Stefan Bajcetic cost £220,000 from Celta Vigo while Calum Scanlon, who also featured for the first team last term, was signed from Birmingham City for £400,000. Kaide Gordon was bought from Derby County for a fee that may rise to £3m
