Breaking: Leeds United has set a demand of over £20million for a top player, with a deal now planned

Leeds United set Illan Meslier demand as transfer now lined up

If Leeds United choose to sell Illan Meslier this summer, they will want a fee “in excess” of £20million, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via its online edition that Ligue 1 side Marseille were showing interest in the goalkeeper this summer.

The report also goes on to say that the Whites have already been looking at potential replacements.

Why Leeds United should try and keep Illan Meslier this summer

Meslier has been ever-present in the Leeds squad since his move from FC Lorient all the way back in 2020.

Despite being relegated to the Championship last season the Frenchman stuck with the West Yorkshire outfit and was among the club’s strongest players.

He played a total of 49 times and managed clean sheets in 21 of those games.

Although Leeds have been reported to be under some pressure to sell before 30 June, thanks to the recent investment from the Red Bull group, the club are in “no rush” to sell [Leeds Live, 21 June].

And, as Crysencio Summerville looks to be on his way out this summer [Ben Jacobs, 24 June] Leeds’ retianment of Meslier could be essential to their promotion hopes.

Although the Whites don’t have a suitable young replacement for the Frenchman within their ranks as of yet, should moves occur for either Summerville or Meslier, they will have plenty in their war chest to find a suitable option alongside Karl Darlow.
