The Chicago Blackhawks have made a significant move in shaping their future roster by signing defenseman Artyom Levshunov to a three-year, entry-level contract. Levshunov, an 18-year-old highly touted defensive prospect and the No. 2 pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, has been a subject of much anticipation among the Blackhawks community, eager to see how his talents will unfold on the NHL stage.

Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson expressed his enthusiasm for Levshunov’s signing, stating, “Signing Artyom gives us the opportunity to continue his development in-house and take the next step into professional hockey. He’s a strong two-way defenseman that has all the tools to be a high-end player in the NHL, and we’re excited to continue his growth at the pro level.”

The transition from college hockey to the professionals is a notable step in Levshunov’s career, a journey he is set to begin with the Blackhawks’ development camp and then possibly with the Rockford IceHogs for most of the 2024-25 season. His performance and adaptability in these initial phases will be crucial, as he acclimates to the professional environment and the rigors of an 82-game season.

Levshunov’s freshman season at Michigan State was nothing short of spectacular, tying for 10th among defensemen with 35 points (nine goals, 26 assists) in 38 games and securing the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year alongside the Freshman of the Year titles.
