Leeds United Attempt to Hijack Move for Award Winning League One Star
Championship Leeds United have reportedly made contact with Peterborough United for their star defender Harrison Burrows, just as the race appeared to have been won by Sheffield United.
The League One Player of the Season has attracted a huge amount of interest this summer, with Preston North End, Sheffield United and big spenders Birmingham City all attempting to secure his signature.
The Blades had been favourites from early into the process, but their takeover saga held up the move despite the player having completed a medical. With the deal not having been completed Birmingham City and Preston attempted to hijack the deal but failed to agree a price, with the latter pulling out of the deal publicly last week.
The Blues have not pulled out, but when the Blades resumed their interest, it appeared as though the race had been won.
Now, according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Leeds United have attempted to hijack the deal with an official late enquiry which could scupper the progressing deal. This seemingly backs up a subtle hint from Posh chair Darragh MacAnthony on talkSPORT that the club may have entered the race.
Whether the Blades can still complete the move is unknown at this stage, but the interest will surely have impacted the potential deal.
Where will Burrows end up?
The Birmingham City and Preston North End attempts appeared more opportunist rather than planned, after the Blades deal was held up. However, Leeds presents a much more difficult opportunity to turn down. The giants in the Championship will be aiming once again for promotion and their interest presents a realistic alternative for the player.
