Chicago Blackhawks re-sign Isaak Phillips and Louis Crevier to one-year deals

The Chicago Blackhawks announced they’ve re-signed a pair of defensemen, coming to terms with Isaak Phillips and Louis Crevier on one-year, two-way contracts. Both blueliners will earn $775,000 at the NHL level next season.

Phillips, 22, split time between the Blackhawks and their American Hockey League affiliate Rockford IceHogs in 2023-24. For Chicago, the 6-foot-3 left-handed defenseman appeared in 33 games, recording six assists and 22 penalty minutes. Phillips averaged over 17 minutes of ice-time per game with the Blackhawks, which included 1:24 on the penalty kill. He finished his NHL season landing 56 hits and blocking 36 shots.

The Barrie, ON native was originally a 2020 fifth-round pick of the Blackhawks. Since joining the organization, Phillips has dressed in 53 NHL games, scoring once and adding 10 assists. He’ll look to battle for a depth role come training camp in September.

Crevier, on the other hand, is a towering presence at 6-foot-8. He was originally a 2020 seventh-round pick of the Blackhawks and last season, appeared in 24 NHL games, recording three assists. Crevier also collected 30 hits and 50 blocked shots in the process, and averaged 15:41 of ice-time per game.

The Quebec City, PQ native, like Phillips, also split time with the IceHogs, where he’d record 11 points in 41 AHL games. The 2023-24 season was Crevier’s first taste of NHL action and he’ll look to impress at training camp and either crack the roster out of camp, or ensure he’s in line for a callup once an injury occurs.

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson has been very busy this offseason. While the team continues to rebuild, they are starting to expedite the process thanks to what they saw from Connor Bedard last season. Davidson went out and spent some serious cash this summer signing Tyler Bertuzzi, Teuvo Teravainen, Pat Maroon, Laurent Brossoit, TJ Brodie, and Alec Martinez.

Despite the slew of transactions, Davidson and the Blackhawks still have $6.6 million in cap space heading into the 2024-25 season.
