The Astros reportedly have acquired pitcher Yusei Kikuchi

The Houston Astros have traded for lefthanded pitcher Yusei Kikuchi from the Toronto Blue Jays, per multiple reports. The exact details of the deal aren’t out yet, but rookie starter Jake Bloss is believed to be going to Toronto in the deal.

Kikuchi is in the final year of a 3 year, $36 million deal signed prior to the 2022 season. Kikuchi has a 4.75 ERA in 22 starts this year, though with a 3.98 xERA and 3.64 FIP.

With the Astros in dire need of starters who can give them innings, Kikuchi gives them a reliable if unspectacular innings eater. The cost, though, isn’t insignificant, as Bloss was rated the #2 prospect in the Astros system by Baseball America.

We will update when more details are available.
