Crystal Palace now consider bid to sign Brazilian player Inter Milan sold in 2024

Gabriel Brazao of FC Internazionale looks on during the FC Internazionale training session at the club's training ground Suning Training Center on ...

Crystal Palace have already signed one Brazilian player in Matheus Franca recently – and another could soon arrive at Selhurst Park.

The Brazil U20 international became just the fifth Brazilian to represent Crystal Palace following his £26m move from Flamengo in August 2023 – after Fumaca, Andre Moritz, Diego Cavalieri and Lucas Perri.

So, who could soon join Matheus Franca at Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace want Gabriel Brazao

A story from Globo Esporte now states that Crystal Palace are considering a bid to sign Gabriel Brazao from Santos.

The man from Uberlandia – who Inter Milan sold to Santos in January 2024 – is being closely monitored by Dougie Freedman as Sam Johnstone aims to leave Selhurst Park.

Johnstone has asked to leave Crystal Palace after Oliver Glasner opted to make Dean Henderson his No.1 goalkeeper – the England international has even had his No.1 shirt replaced with the No.32 strip.

Despite the 31-year-old’s desire to become No.1 elsewhere, it is unlikely that Crystal Palace will sanction his sale unless a replacement is signed first, although Brazao could be the man.

Globo Esporte add that John Textor could help negotiations run more smoothly, given his involvement in Brazilian football as owner of Botafogo – although no asking price is mentioned by the South American news outlet.

Brazao – who is 23 years of age – has made 15 appearances in Serie B so far this season, keeping seven clean sheets while conceding 11 goals.

Perfect Dean Henderson backup

It remains to be seen how Brazao would adapt to life in England, but in terms of personnel, he seems to be the ideal fit to deputise for Henderson.

A relatively inexperienced, young goalkeeper is unlikely to arrive at a Premier League side and kick up a fuss if he cannot play ahead of a £20m England international, so we surely wouldn’t have another situation where one of Glasner’s glovesmen is unhappy, like Johnstone currently is.

Instead, the expectation would be that Brazao arrives in SE25 hungry to make a name for himself, and deliver whenever called upon, presumably in the Carabao Cup or FA Cup when goalkeeping changes can often happen, like Patrick Vieira decided when opting to use Jack Butland as his cup goalkeeper.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Freedman could submit a bid for the Santos No.77 if there is movement regarding Johnstone’s future.
