Daniel Farke eyeing another key Leeds United signing aside from new full-back and midfielder

Daniel Farke recently made it clear that he wanted four new additions at Leeds United, in the form of a full-back, a midfielder and replacements for both Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.

Having signed Largie Ramazani as a replacement for Summerville, it looks as if Leeds will announce the signing of Israel star Manor Solomon on a loan from Tottenham as cover for the departure of Rutter.

That leaves Farke eying a full-back and a midfielder. Likely to be a new left-back given Sam Byram is the only cover for Jayden Bogle and Junior Firpo, and Byram is not only injury-prone but also right-footed.

Then, a midfielder having lost Glen Kamara an Archie Gray and only managed to bring in Joe Rothwell. But it appears that Farke is now eyeing another player, according to a report from the Mail on Sunday.

Farke wants Leeds to sign a striker before Friday deadline

Mateo Joseph has started well up top in Leeds’ three Championship games after an excellent pre-season. While the Spaniard is yet to score, he laid on both assists on Friday in Leeds’ win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe have both made substitute outings while starting against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup. Joe Gelhardt remains back-up for the three while offering cover in other positions.

But The Mail say that despite the number of options Farke has for the no.9 role, he would like another striker. Whoever that is remains to be seen, but Farke clearly feels the need to bring in a goal-getter.

What does that mean for Piroe, Bamford and Gelhardt?

A loan exit for Gelhardt has always been likely having already left Leeds for Sunderland during his stint at Elland Road, on loan. For Piroe and Bamford, the future is unclear as Farke takes Leeds into a new era.

Bamford is a reminder of the past, the Marcelo Bielsa days. One of only a few surviving players from that time, alongside the likes of Illan Meslier and Pascal Struijk. But he has failed to live up to his 2020-21 form.

Piroe meanwhile, was meant to be the striker that scored the goals that took Leeds up. But struggling in the 10 role and unable to start this season, he only scored 13 last season. They may be made expendable.
