Sunderland have ‘had talks’ with transfer target, but player has ‘a lot of options’

Sunderland appear to be keen on signing another striker before the August 30th transfer deadline.

All summer long, Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman have been trying to sign a new striker.

And it looked as though the club may have gone another window without signing one.

But before Sunderland beat Burnley last weekend, the club unveiled Wilson Isidor as their latest striker signing.

Isidor joins on a season-long loan from Zenit. He’s the first striker signing at the Stadium of Light since last summer and Regis Le Bris will be hoping he can hit the ground running.

Sunderland fans though may hope to see one more striker arrive on Wearside this summer.

Striker options are still quite thin on the ground despite the arrival of Isidor.

And there’s a number of names being linked with summer moves to Sunderland, including long-term Black Cats target Alexandre Mendy and Red Bull Salzburg striker Roko Simic.

It was claimed last week that Simic was undergoing a Sunderland medical, though that update appeared to be premature.

Roko Simic to Sunderland latest

Simic’s links came out of the blue, but journalist Michael Graham was wowed by Sunderland’s interest in Simic.

The 20-year-old Croatian striker scored five in 28 Austrian Bundesliga outings last season.

Now, Graham says that a German Bundesliga side are also in the race to sign Simic this summer.

Graham adds that Sunderland have held talks with Simic but makes no mention of a medical.

Lastly, Graham suggests that it’s a difficult deal for Sunderland to try and pull off, with Simic likely to command a sizeable transfer fee too.

Do Sunderland need to sign Roko Simic

Simic certainly seems to fit the bill for Sunderland; young and seemingly full of potential, with another striker signing quite necessary, especially given the fact that Isidor is only on loan.

But for the Sunderland owners, Simic may be slightly out of their price range.

Whether the recent sale of Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town gives the club a bit of spending money remains to be seen.

And the Simic link certainly screams ambition from Sunderland.

Le Bris though may be wondering whether or not he’ll have any spending money for January, with the January window often crucial for teams chasing promotion to the Premier League.

If Sunderland can get a deal over the line for Simic then it’ll be very impressive.

After the arrival of Isidor though, a Simic deal doesn’t seem overly-important for the Black Cats, at least not right now.
