Gold-winning coach to leave AIK at end of season
Head coach Robert Ohlsson will leave Skellefteå AIK at the end of the season when his contract expires. “I have previously informed both the sports management and the players that I am leaving,” explains the 49-year-old to Norran.
During a Monday appearance on the Hockeymorgon podcast the AIK coach was asked about his plans for the 2025/2026 season.
– This is my final season in Skellefteå, revealed Ohlsson, who has been linked to a return to Frölunda HC in numerous Swedish news outlets.
In an interview with Norran, Ohlsson explained his decision to announce the news.
– There’s been so much speculation, and when I was asked if I would continue with Skellefteå AIK, I decided, for AIK’s sake, to confirm that this would be my last season here, he said.
How does it feel to make this announcement public?
– I previously informed both the management and the players that I would be leaving at the end of the season, so it’s not a surprise within the team, Ohlsson replied.
– However, it might be more of a shock to those outside the club.
Does this mean you’ll face fewer questions now?
– Yes, I think so, the AIK coach said with a smile.
Ohlsson’s two assistant coaches, Andreas Falk and Pierre Johnsson, have contracts that extend beyond the upcoming season. Falk is under contract until the 2025/26 season, while Johnsson is contracted until the summer of 2027.
