Leeds United’s Championship rivals swoop to sign former Burnley and Watford striker

Plymouth Argyle have strengthened their attack by signing free agent Andre Gray

One of Leeds United’s league rivals have today beefed up their forward line. Plymouth Argyle have announced the signing of former Watford and Burnley striker Andre Gray on a short-term contract until January.

The Jamaica international, whose last club was Al-Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, will go straight into the Argyle squad for tomorrow’s Championship meeting with Blackburn Rovers, subject to international clearance. The 33-year-old has plundered almost 200 goals in a career that has seen him also have spells at Luton Town, Shrewsbury Town and Brentford.

Gray bagged 25 goals when the Clarets won the Championship in 2016. He was sold to Watford a year later for a then-club record fee believed to be around £18.5m. The forward spent time at Greek side Aris Salonika before moving to Saudi Arabia last year.
