The Phoenix Suns have been in desperate need to find a solid playmaking point guard, after the duties were split between both Devin Booker and Bradley Beal this past season after the team sent away Chris Paul to acquire Beal.

However, the team may have found their answer by pulling off a massive steal of a signing in Tyus Jones, who is likely set to join the starting line-up and be the primary playmaker for the team. Jones is one of the best playmakers in the NBA, with a stunningly good assist to turnover ratio.

But what if there was another guy out there with a higher ceiling?

While Jones seems the perfect fit and exactly what the Suns need, one former NBA All-Star and retired great has suggested the Suns target another incredible playmaker. Gilbert Arenas. Arenas has suggested in his podcast that Simmons is exactly what Phoenix needs:

Arenas brings up some solid points, Simmons can be a triple double threat when on the floor. For his career, he averages 14.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.4 assists, being a solid all-around player when on the floor. Simmons is also gifted on the defensive end, being able to lock down players in multiple positions.

Simmons has made a number of All-Defensive teams during his short career and has proven he can be effective on that end of the court. His court vision is unquestionably brilliant and he has always showcased that he can find his team mates well. He would fit well alongside this squad, who often lack on the defensive end.

However, with Ben Simmons skillset has always come his issues as well, mainly his ability to stay healthy and remain on the court. Simmons has been questioned over his mindset amid a string of injuries and multiple surgeries which have kept him off the court this past three seasons.

Simmons has a monster contract deal, which will see him earn over 40 million this upcoming season. The former number one pick has only managed to play 57 games combined this past three seasons, and will hopefully be looking to perform well this season as it is his contract year.

If Simmons is able to stay on the court and perform to his best abilities, he would be a solid player for any team to have. However, the price tag is also a downside for any team to take on. For most teams to think about acquiring Simmons, they would require the Nets to buy out Simmons’ contract as his 40 million would require them to trade a superstar player.

For example, if the Phoenix Suns were to attempt to add Simmons through a trade this season, the only players they could trade to Brooklyn would be Kevin Durant, Devin Booker or Bradley Beal, none of which would be a good move for the Suns.

Simmons could certainly benefit the Suns if he stays healthy, however the Suns would be taking on more risk than reward by trading one of their big three players to acquire him. If the Suns wait until next offseason, they may get the chance to sign Simmons to a much more team friendly deal if things do not work out with Brooklyn.
