King Mack Commits to Alabama in 2024 CFB Transfer Portal After Leaving Penn State

Penn State transfer defensive back King Mack has committed to Alabama.

Mack announced his decision Friday on social media.

Mack was publicly recruited on social media by former Alabama players Dallas Turner and Jordan Battle.

He recorded three tackles and one quarterback hurry in 13 appearances as a true freshman at Penn State last season.

Mack’s decision comes after he visited Alabama last weekend, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

In State College, Mack saw most of his playing time on special teams and took 70 total defensive snaps, per Pro Football Focus (h/t 247Sports’ Cody Goodwin.)

He is likely to see a bigger role next season in Tuscaloosa, where he will join the team with three years of eligibility remaining.

Mack originally chose Penn State over other candidates including North Carolina, Arkansas and Michigan State, according to 247Sports.

A four-star prospect out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mack was ranked fourth among all safeties available in the portal this spring, per 247Sports.

Mack is the third transfer defensive back to commit to Alabama, where he will join Wake Forest transfer DaShawn Jones and Charlotte transfer Kameron Howard.

The Crimson Tide is looking to replenish their backfield after losing the cornerbacks that led them to the 2023 SEC Championship to the NFL draft. Terrion Arnold was selected at No. 24 by the Detroit Lions, while Kool-Aid McKinstry went off the board at No. 41 as a Detroit Lions draft pick.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said before the draft that the school planned to focus on finding defensive backs when the transfer portal opened, per Chase Goodbread of the Tuscaloosa News.
