Jim Montgomery Offers Update On Bruins Star Following Brief Exit
When the Boston Bruins returned to the ice to start the third period against the Colorado Avalanche, they were without their captain — Brad Marchand.
Marchand collided with Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen and fell awkwardly to the ice just over seven minutes into the second period. Rantanen was called for interference, giving the Bruins their third power play opportunity of the game. It was Marchand’s eighth drawn penalty this season.
The star forward had an additional shift after the collision but exited the game and went down the tunnel with 4:26 remaining in the middle frame. Marchand missed the beginning of the third period but returned to the ice for his first shift at 6:17.
Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery updated reporters on Marchand’s status after Boston’s 5-3 over Colorado.
“Oh, Brad’s fine, yeah,” Montgomery said. “Just a spasm.”
Boston’s next game is Saturday when the club faces off against the Utah Hockey Club for the first time.
