Stoke City facing £10m uncertainty over striker amid January recall bombshell

Tom Cannon scored four goals in Stoke's 6-1 demolition of Portsmouth.

Stoke City face potential uncertainty over the future of Tom Cannon amid reports that his parent club Leicester City could trigger a call-back option on the player in the January transfer window in a bid to cash in on the much-admired striker.

The 21-year-old joined the Potters on a season-long loan on deadline day in the summer, with then-boss Steven Schumacher winning a Championship-wide, summer-long fight to land the former Everton prospect.

And although it took a few weeks to get off the mark, the Republic of Ireland international announced his arrival when he rattled in four goals in a 6-1 demolition of Portsmouth at the bet365 stadium earlier this month, becoming the first player to score four goals for Stoke since Peter Thorne in March 2000.

But the Sun’s Alan Nixon today claims that the Foxes are “keen” to sell Cannon, whom they value at around £10m, and might well force the issue at the mid-term trading point.

“Leicester have an option to call back Tom Cannon in the next transfer window and that has put his Championship fan club on red alert,” says Nixon.

“The highly-rated Stoke loanee, 21, hit four goals against Portsmouth this month. And rivals Sheffield United and West Brom could table loan-to-buy options to put pressure on the Potters to make the deal permanent with the Foxes keen to pocket £10 million for the striker.”
