Latest ESPN piece has the Bears linked to an interesting position leading up to the NFL trade deadline
The NFL trade deadline is just a few days away and we’re seeing more teams starting to make aggressive moves to load up on talent for the second-half of the season.
The common belief right now is that the Chicago Bears will be sellers before being buyers this year at the deadline, considering the roster is finally in a solid shape from top to bottom.
Names such as guard Nate Davis, running back Khalil Herbert, and pass rusher Dominque Robinson continue to be mentioned as potential players the team could look to shop ahead of the November 5th deadline.
On the buyer front, if the Bears do look to add some more high-end talent to the roster, adding to either front seems like the most likely option. Fans have been drooling over the possibly of landing another top pass rusher to pair with Montez Sweat or making a move to land a top interior offensive lineman.
However, on Wednesday, ESPN had the Bears linked to another position entirely and listed a player the team recently faced as a potential addition for the offense.
ESPN believes Bears should target RB Chuba Hubbard
This wishful thinking came completely out of left field this morning and it’s hard to even think about the Bears making a move like this.
Right now, the Bears have been rotating two backs the current regime recently invested in and have completely forgot about one of their former starters. Adding another back to the room who would need a new deal after this season seems like a complete waste of draft capital and resources.
The Bears just paid top dollar to land D’Andre Swift as the team’s new featured back and drafted Roschon Johnson in the fourth round last season. Even though it was a rough start to the season on the ground, those two have managed to stack together some solid games going into the bye week as a one-two punch.
Don’t get me wrong, Hubbard is an exciting player and has been one of the best backs in the league this season. He currently ranks fifth in the NFL in rushing yards and tenth in rushing yards per game.
His style of play is something that is missing compared to the backs currently on the roster and defensive coordinator Eric Washington had a lot of good things to say about Hubbard leading up to team’s matchup against the Panthers a few weeks ago.
At the end of the day, this would be a move a fantasy football general manager would make, not one a real NFL general manager would do. Especially with the current state of the Bears roster and the remaining holes needed to be filled.
