Braves predicted to win bidding war to re-sign $172 million sign

The Atlanta Braves should be able to contend in 2025.

Even if the Braves don’t add any big-name players this winter, they still have one of the deepest rosters in baseball. If Atlanta is healthier in 2025, they will be able to make some noise.

Before we get to Opening Day, though, the Braves will need to decide whether or not to re-sign All-Star starting pitcher Max Fried this winter. This is the team’s biggest decision to make this winter, and it shouldn’t be too hard. Fried is a star and has shined with the team over the last eight years. The team should find a way to bring him back.

There has been a lot of speculation that he will end up signing elsewhere, but Sportsnaut’s Matt Johnson predicted he will re-sign with Atlanta on a six-year, $172 million deal.

“The Boston Red Sox have been linked as a potential landing spot for some of the best MLB free agents this offseason, but nothing we’ve seen in recent years suggests the Fenway Sports Group is willing to spend,” Johnson said. “Plus, with the (New York Mets) in on some of the other top players in our MLB free agency predictions, there’s a path open for Max Fried to re-sign with the Atlanta Braves. While the bidding war might get a little uncomfortable, Fried proved his worth to the Braves organization this past season, and the franchise is likely to reward him with a new deal. Max Fried contract prediction: six years, $172 million.”

This is just a hypothetical, but Johnson makes a very good point. Fried has been everything the team could’ve hoped for over the last eight years. They shouldn’t let him walk this winter.
