Leicester City provide worrying Jannik Vestergaard update as well as the latest on injured trio ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Jannik Vestergaard of Leicester City looks on during the Premier League match between Leicester City FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC at The King Power ...

Leicester City are set to be without four players for their East Midlands derby against Nottingham Forest on Friday.

Steve Cooper will face his former club for the first time since being sacked in December 2023 at the King Power Stadium on Friday.

The Foxes will be buoyed by their back-to-back wins and the Leicester boss will need everyone firing on all cylinders if they are to take home the bragging rights.

But there may be four names who Cooper can’t call upon due to injury.

Jannik Vestergaard to have scan on ankle injury

Jannik Vestergaard missed the comeback win against Southampton after suffering an ankle injury midweek.

Vestergaard hasn’t played for Leicester since August but was fit enough to feature for Denmark in their October internationals, where he was widely praised.

Whether or not the centre-back would’ve featured is another story, with Caleb Okoli seemingly the preferred option alongside Wout Faes despite being a mainstay in the side last year, earning himself a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

He is now set to undergo a scan to reveal the extent of his injury and it seems highly unlikely that he will play, as revealed by Leicestershire Live.

Leicester set to be without trio for busy run of fixtures

In some more positive news, Hamza Choudhury, Jakub Stolarczyk, and Patson Daka are all edging closer to a return.

Choudhury recently dislocated his shoulder and despite fears that he may be out for months, scans revealed he would only need weeks to recover.

Stolarczyk and Daka have both been back out on the grass training but are yet to link up with the first team, meaning any chance of being involved in a busy run of fixtures before the November break is unlikely.

The team that Steve Cooper must start against Nottingham Forest

With Leicester at home on Friday, the expectation will be on them to attack.

Aside from Manchester City, they are the only side in the Premier League to have scored in every game so far.

Forest play a much more conservative style of football and are likely to try and counter on the break, but that doesn’t mean Leicester should hold back from attacking.

Abdul Fatawu changed the game at the weekend and has even been compared to Bukayo Saka and should deservedly start, which enables Facundo Buonanotte to move into the middle.

The composure of Harry Winks is also something that could be vital in a hotly-contested rivalry too, while it is also time to drop James Justin and replace him with Ricardo Pereira, who has made his feelings about his lack of minutes very clear.
