AFC Bournemouth’s three-game unbeaten in the Premier League came to an end at Brentford. The run which had seen victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, with a draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park, meant the Cherries had taken 7 points from their last 3 games.
The Cherries were an early threat, but the first chance they had was ballooned over the crossbar by Marcos Senesi, but then Evanilson jumped on a mistake from the Brentford defence and with a great fake took the ball around the ‘keeper to slot the ball into an empty net, the Cherries go were 1-0 up.
The goal showed great anticipation. He knew the Brentford player was going to knock it back before the Brentford player knew it himself.
The lead didn’t last long when Wissa replied for Brentford and then it was half-time.
But the Cherries press didn’t stop there, a few minutes into the second half Bournemouth had a corner, and a brilliantly worked set piece saw Justin Kluivert smash one in from a few yards out to beat the Brentford keeper to make it 2-1, once again however, the Cherries lead didn’t last long before Damsgaard scored to make it 2 a piece at the Gtech, before Wissa scored again to make Brentford lead for the first time in the match. Both sides had chances to add to the scoresheet but that was how it remained when the referee Darren Bond blew for full-time.
After the game, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo…
“It’s a hard one for us because I’m quite happy with the performance really, I think we especially in the first half we were clearly the better team but it’s true that we couldn’t make the difference.
“You finish 1-1 [at half time] and probably the second half has had less rhythm.
“There have been a lot of things but it has been more stop and go, set plays. Probably a key moment is when we concede after the 2-1.
“But more or less the game has been what we expected, similar to the games Brentford has played here at home.
“The throw ins, the kickoff, you have to manage these situations and they punished us there.
“But I think our performance deserves much, much more today.”
