Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends 38-Home Run Star Outfielder To Mets

The New York Mets are anticipated to be the top spenders of this offseason’s free agency period. The two routes that insiders anticipate either include landing Juan Soto or landing a haul of four or five superstars as a backup plan. Either way, the goal is to improve a lot.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report recently crafted a trade that would give the Mets a star outfielder who could either replace Soto if they miss on him, or even to play beside him in center field.

“The Mets made a run at the World Series this year in large part because they had stars in all the right places. Except, that is, for center field. It was a weirdly star-less venture, with Harrison Bader and Tyrone Taylor getting the bulk of the reps,” Rymer wrote. “The defense was fine. The offense? Less so. So, never mind Garrett Crochet. Luis Robert Jr. is the Chicago White Sox trade chip that should have the Mets’ eye.”

Here’s the deal Rymer proposed: Chicago White Sox receive: IF Ronny Mauricio (Mets No. 5), RHP Blade Tidwell (Mets No. 9) New York Mets receive OF Luis Robert Jr. From the Mets’ perspective, this deal seems like a fever dream. They would land the biggest outfielder on the trade block that comes to the team with legit 30/30 potential in the big leagues while only losing two players in exchange.

But there’s simply no way the White Sox would ever accept this deal under any circumstances. Last season, Chicago reportedly wanted a “Juan Soto-esque” package of prospects for Robert. They’ve come down from that insane asking price, but they still won’t give him up for two top-ten prospects. It’s an intriguing idea and the fit for Robert in the Big Apple makes perfect sense. The Mets would just have to trade quite a bit more to land their guy.
