Bruins defenseman calls out Wings forward for ‘disrespectful’ play

BOSTON — Nikita Zadorov thought Lucas Raymond was trying to buy what he thought was a cheap penalty late in the second period and he didn’t like it.

The Bruins defenseman hit the Red Wing forward in the hand with his stick to earn himself a slashing call. Raymond then turned to the official shaking his hand. He was either in pain or — as Zadorov thought — trying to portray that in Boston’s 3-2 win Tuesday at TD Garden.

After the whistle, Zadorov cross-checked him from behind to the ice.

“I don’t like when the guy is shaking his hand. I barely touched his hand,” he said. “I think that’s got to get out of the league. It’s a men’s league. We all get slashed. We’re all in pain. But you don’t go like this (pantomiming Raymond’s response) to show the referee you got slashed. I thought it was a little disrespectful so I went after him.”

Zadorov, who had a goal and 12 penalty minutes in the game, wasn’t given an extra two minutes for the cross-check.
