Despite Daniel Farke again promising January will be a quiet window ahead of Leeds United’s clash with Derby County, rumours continue to circle regarding potential incomings next month.
Farke was asked about the prospect of Leeds signing a new number 10, but again suggested he isn’t expecting anything major to happen at Elland Road.
Leeds currently sit third in the Championship and could certainly do with a little extra help in January to provide their promotion push with an extra boost for the second half of the campaign, something they didn’t do last season.
Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgeman and Maccabi Haifa midfielder Mahmoud Jaber have both been linked this week, with some reports even suggesting an approach has been made for the former.
In terms of outgoings, Max Wober is a target of Red Bull Salzburg, while Joe Gelhardt looks set for a loan move pretty much as soon as the window opens.
Even though Junior Firpo is doubtful, Sam Byram is ruled out and Isaac Schmidt is only just back from injury himself ahead of facing Derby this weekend, full-back does not look like one of the positions Leeds need to strengthen.
However, according to Soccer Laduma, Leeds are ‘understood’ to have taken an interest in Mamelodi Sundowns right-back Khuliso Mudau.
Leeds were linked with Mudau in the summer but instead opted to bring in Schmidt from FC St. Gallen, who has barely played himself since arriving in West Yorkshire.
Given Schmidt’s lack of game time, it would make very little sense for Leeds to pursue a move for Mudau, but the report suggests he has attracted the attention of the Whites.
Mudau is a 29-year-old South African international who has also been linked with a move to Leeds’ promotion rivals Burnley in the past.
Mudau is now at the stage of his career where a move to a top footballing nation needs to arrive sometime in the near future, or it never will.
Former Crystal Palace player Kagisho Dikgacoi, who was also a South African international during his career, believes Mudau is a ‘complete’ defender who has what it takes to succeed in England.
He said: “Guys like Teboho [Mokoena], Mudau are doing well. There’s no doubt they can play [in England]. Rele [Mofokeng] is doing well at Pirates and he can do well. It’s just up to the player if he wants to be at that level or not.
“Khuliso would certainly do well. He can excel. He produces those qualities defensively and offensively that teams are looking for. Offensively, he will give you something. Defensively, one-on-ones, he is good. He is a complete player in my opinion.”
