Maple Leafs Make Roster Move Following Anthony Stolarz’s Injury
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube provided an update on goaltender Anthony Stolarz’s condition Friday. Berube confirmed, via The Athletic’s Jonas Siegel, that the netminder is “day-to-day” as he recovers from the lower-body injury sustained during Thursday’s win against the Anaheim Ducks. Stolarz left the game after the first period, during which he stopped seven of eight shots. He was ruled out shortly after and didn’t return to the game.
“I do [anticipate him returning soon], but in saying that, again, he’s got to get on the ice,” Berube said, per The Hockey News. “But it was good news overall. Let’s just leave it at that. “Right now, it’s day-to-day.” In response to Stolarz’s absence, the Leafs have recalled 23-year-old Dennis Hildeby from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
Hildeby will back up Joseph Woll for the team’s weekend matchups against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday and the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday. G Dennis Hildeby has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL) on an emergency basis.
Berube hinted that Hildeby could see action starting one of those games, especially given the back-to-back schedule. “[Hildeby] came in and played that great game in Jersey for us. So we have confidence in him,” Berube said. “He’s got a lot of ability and he’s obviously a big man. “So if we got to use him, I have confidence in him for sure.”
Hildeby’s call-up comes amidst an uneven season in the AHL, however, where he’s posted an .897 save percentage in six games earning a 2-2-2 record. The netminder had a great rookie campaign last year and showcased his potential with a .913 save percentage in 41 appearances of which he won 21 including four shutouts.
