Former Auburn quarterback headed to ACC school

Former Auburn and Hoover High School quarterback Robby Ashford will transfer to Wake Forest, he announced Sunday.

Ashford, who started 10 games at Auburn in 2022 and 2023, was the backup quarterback at South Carolina in 2024. He played in eight games for the Gamecocks, starting a Week 3 game vs. Akron when regular starter LaNorris Sellers was injured.

Wake Forest — which recently hired former Washington State head coach Jake Dickert and ex-South Alabama offensive coordinator Rob Ezell — will be Ashford’s fourth school in six years since graduating from Hoover in 2020. Demon Deacons starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier was a sixth-year senior in 2024.

A two-sport star in both football and baseball at Hoover, Ashford originally signed with Oregon as part of the 2020 class. He never saw action in two seasons with the Ducks before transferring to Auburn in 2022.
