Mets Would Land Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in Blockbuster 5-Player Trade Prediction

While the New York Mets have made several roster acquisitions in hopes of returning to the postseason in 2025, there’s still a question mark at first base since Pete Alonso remains unsigned. Could president of baseball operations David Stearns make a bold move for Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.? While Guerrero’s name has been churning through the trade rumor mill this winter, a trade before the season starts seems unlikely. Even if the right-handed hitter doesn’t agree to a long-term extension with the Jays before the start of spring training, they’ll likely continue trying to compete in 2025 after signing outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year, $92.5 million deal. But things can change quickly, especially if extension talks break down. As long as Guerrero’s long-term future remains uncertain, the possibility of a team like the Mets swooping in to make a trade remains. FanSided’s Jacob Mountz proposed the following “realistic” swap between both squads:

While Marte’s inclusion would be more of a salary dump, the other three would be significant additions for Toronto. Vientos is fresh off a breakout campaign in 2024, while Williams (second) and Mauricio (sixth) are two of New York’s top-10 prospects, according to MLB.com. This hypothetical trade would only guarantee the Mets one year of Guerrero. He’s due to earn $28.5 million in 2025 and is scheduled to reach free agency next winter. Spotrac projects his market value at 12 years and $427 million.
