Dodgers hopeful for reunion with ex-Red Sox infielder

The Dodgers have had a busy offseason adding big-name free agents to their already-stacked roster. But during their annual fan fest, fans made it known they wanted one specific player to return to Los Angeles.

Fans in attendance began chanting, “Kiké!” for Kiké Hernández who remains a free agent with spring training a week away. President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman assured fans that a reunion isn’t off the table.

“The door will never be closed on Kíké,” Friedman said. “Whatever the best decision is for Kiké and his wife, his family, they’ll figure it out. I’m biased, and hopefully it’s with us, but they’ve put themselves in a position to make a decision.”

The New York Post’s Mark W. Sanchez reported last week that while the New York Yankees checked in on the former Boston Red Sox infielder, the “likely destination” for Hernández was back with the Dodgers

Hernández spent the last two seasons in LA — his second stint with the team — after the Red Sox traded him to the Dodgers in 2023. He helped Los Angeles win the World Series when he batted .278 with five hits (one triple) and three runs in the five-game series against the Yankees.

The Dodgers signed Hyeseong Kim, which could make a reunion more difficult for Hernández with Kim likely to fill a super utility role for Los Angeles. But Hernández is well-liked among the team and the fans, and there’s no doubt he brings plenty of energy to the clubhouse.
