Everton could return for Ernest Nuamah in the summer

Everton are likely to reignite their interest in Olympique Lyon sensation Ernest Nuamah ahead of next season.

Everton were interested in signing Ernest Nuamah during the recently concluded winter transfer window. They might not have gone ahead with that move but according to a report from Football Insider, the Toffees could revisit his signing next summer.

Nuamah joined Lyon on a season-long loan back in 2023. He had an impressive debut campaign in the French top flight as he contributed towards five goals in his 29 outings. The 21-year-old right-winger has carried on in a similar fashion this season as well.

He has featured in 24 games across competitions so far and has three goal contributions to his name. While he hasn’t had too many goal contributions, Nuamah has made quite a name for himself thanks to his ability to feature anywhere in attack.

The Ghanaian international’s versatility and his massive potential have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. Everton are one of the English clubs that are keen on his signature. The Toffees were looking to reinforce their attack mid-season and they did consider making a move for Nuamah in January.

While newly appointed manager David Moyes did talk about the possible move, Everton didn’t go ahead with it. It could be a sign that they have moved on from him but the report suggests their decision to not push for his signature might be because their manager hasn’t seen enough of him. He is not yet sure whether the 21-year-old would be an ideal fit in his system.

They now have time on their hands and will continue to monitor him heading into the next transfer window when they could return for his signature. Everton have massive financial concerns and even that might have played a part. They won’t have any concerns regarding profit and sustainability rules next summer; that could be an ideal time for them to land Nuamah.

While the Toffees are interested in his signature, they won’t find it easy to strike a deal with Lyon as his contract with the French club runs until the summer of 2028.
