Unexpected: Amidst a $500 transfer report, Toronto Blue Jays star infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. makes startling demands.

Toronto Blue Jays, star infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Message Amid $500 Report

After not reaching a longterm extension with the Toronto Blue Jays, star infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. enters the 2025 MLB season prepared to test free agency upon its conclusion. Guerrero told reporters the Blue Jays were not close to his desired contract ( via ESPN’s Jeff Passan), further legitimizing the possibility that another team could win his services in free agency if Toronto does not change its stance.

Different reports have speculated what Guerrero was seeking and what Toronto ultimately offered, but neither side has revealed exact numbers. On Friday, a report from Jon Heyman of the New York Post revealed what Guerrero could be expecting in free agency.

Speaking on the The Baseball Insiders Podcast, Heyman said Guerrero is “going to expect over $500 million” in free agency (h/t Bleacher Report ). On the same day of this report, Guerrero’s new teammate Anthony Santander addressed reporters, speaking highly of the Blue Jays’ franchise player.

“This is going to be exciting,” Santander said of hitting behind Guerrero in John Schneider’s batting order. “He’s a great hitter. Actually, every time we go to the cages, I go with him to try to pick up something and get better. This will be exciting.”

Santander is coming off a career year with the Baltimore Orioles that helped him land a five-year, $92.5 million contract with Toronto this offseason. Making his first All-Star team last season, the switch-hitting outfielder hit 44 home runs and drove in 102 runs.

While there is a lot of noise around Guerrero, including his reported $500 million desired contract, Santander is focused on complementing the four-time All-Star this season.
