Red Sox Predicted To Swap Rafael Devers For Mike Trout, $100 Million, More
The Boston Red Sox acquired Alex Bregman in free agency and immediately started drama within the team. Rafael Devers is reportedly refusing to move off third base while the front office and coaching staff would likely want Bregman to play third and Devers to be the designated hitter.
If the Red Sox refuse to give Devers what he wants, there’s a small chance that he will demand a trade out of Boston. It hasn’t happened yet and it might not happen at all, but it’s certainly a possibility.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently pitched a ridiculous hypothetical trade that would send Devers to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for a package centered around Mike Trout.
Here’s the full deal pitched by Rymer that would swap the two superstars: Los Angeles Angels receive: 3B Rafael Devers Boston Red Sox receive: RF Mike Trout, LHP Samuel Aldegheri (Angels No. 5 prospect), $100 million cash “Trout has a no-trade clause, so this is assuming he’d waive that to go to Boston,” Rymer wrote. “That’s not a leap, right? The poor guy is way overdue for some postseason success, and the Red Sox can offer him a much better shot at it than the Angels.
“And while right field is in Trout’s immediate future, there would be nothing stopping him from claiming the Red Sox’s DH spot for the long term. As for the Italy-born Aldegheri, he’s more of a high-floor guy than a high-ceiling type. Either way, he’s an MLB-ready hurler who could help Boston in 2025.
” Of all the Devers trade hypotheticals out there, this one might be the craziest.
Again, it’s important to note that the Red Sox should only explore trading him if he demands a trade and refuses to play otherwise.
If Trout can stay healthy and Aldegheri pans out, the Red Sox could actually win this deal. Still, trading Devers is a huge pill to swallow especially if they’re receiving an injury-riddled Trout and just one prospect.
